About Us

Kashvi is a holistic learning and livelihood initiative that supports girls and women aged 15 and above who have stepped away from formal education. Through our two core programmes, Kashvi Manzil and Kashvi Disha, we create pathways that help learners rebuild their educational foundation, strengthen confidence, and move towards dignified income opportunities.

Kashvi Manzil focuses on bringing women back into learning through Basic Literacy, Life Skills, and structured academic support that enables them to complete Grade 10 and Grade 12 through the National Institute of Open Schooling. The programme is designed to meet women where they are, offering flexible, community-based learning spaces that nurture self-belief, decision-making, and personal agency.

Kashvi Disha extends this journey by connecting women to skill-building, vocational training, and livelihood options across farm, non-farm, and home-based sectors. Through practical training, exposure, and mentorship, women are supported to translate their learning into income, independence, and long-term economic stability.

Together, Manzil and Disha form a seamless continuum, from literacy to life skills, and from learning to livelihood. Kashvi’s approach strengthens both personal growth and economic participation, contributing to greater gender equity and community resilience.

Currently operational in Jharkhand, Jharkhand continues to face gendered disparities in both education and employment. According to the 2023–24 Jharkhand Economic Survey, female literacy stands at 70.6%, compared to earlier years when it was significantly lower, but still needs focussed attention. Meanwhile, IWWAGE (Initiative for What Works to Advance Women and Girls in the Economy) data shows that only 35.2% of women in Jharkhand actively participate in the workforce, highlighting persistent barriers like caregiving responsibilities and limited job access

By combining education support with life skills and direct livelihood linkages, Kashvi strengthens personal agency and unlocks real economic potential for women.

Our Vision

A future where every woman can realise her innate potential and lead a life of dignity, agency, and opportunity.

Our Mission

To empower women through opportunities that restore education, build life skills, and unlock vocational and livelihood pathways to opportunity, agency, and financial independence.

Our Journey

4 years of empowering women to rise with agency, reclaim their futures, and lead lives of purpose and confidence.

Founder’s Note

When we began this journey, it wasn’t with a five-year plan. It was with a visit. We had funded a small project for girls who had dropped out of school. But when we spent time with them, heard their stories and saw their determination, one thing became clear: they didn’t lack ability. They simply lacked opportunity. That moment stayed with us. We soon realised they weren’t alone. Across villages, towns, and cities, there are thousands of women and girls who are bright, capable, and full of potential but have been left behind because they didn’t have access to continue their education or build a secure future.

We started Kashvi with a simple but powerful belief: that every woman deserves the chance to begin again, with access to education, livelihood opportunities, and the agency to shape a future she can be proud of. Kashvi exists to give girls and women the opportunity to turn setbacks into comebacks.

Our vision grows every day, shaped by the steady commitment of our team and, most of all, by the strength and courage of the women who choose to enrol and show up every single day. The real credit belongs to them.

Through Kashvi Manzil (education and life skills), Kashvi Disha (livelihoods), and Kashvi Udaan (our digital program), we work to ensure that women return to learning and gain the tools, knowledge, and agency they need to support themselves, their families, and their communities.

We are proud to be a grassroots organisation, working in some of the most challenging districts in Jharkhand, listening to the communities we serve, learning constantly, and building from the ground up. Our team goes door to door, speaks with families, and supports each learner with empathy and care.

We’ve set an ambitious goal: to reach every district in Jharkhand within five years and to expand to other states where this work is equally needed. But this vision doesn’t belong to us. It belongs to the women who persist, who overcome, and who begin again. They are the true heroes of this story.

We believe that when a woman rises, she lifts her family, her community, and an entire generation with her.
We invite you to support our work and walk this journey with us.
Let’s turn more setbacks into comebacks.

Warmly,
Founder

The phrase “like a girl” has often been used casually, sometimes even dismissively.

Yet across classrooms, communities and workplaces, girls and women continue to redefine what those words can represent : determination, persistence and the courage to begin again.

For many women, returning to education or building new livelihood pathways is not just a personal milestone. It is a quiet act of resilience and agency. Perhaps it is time we reconsider what we mean when we say “like a girl.”

Exactly like a girl.

At Kashvi, we witness these journeys every day where are women choosing to return to learning and shape new possibilities for themselves and their communities.

When we see women managing multiple responsibilities at once, we often call it strength.
And it is.

But strength should not automatically mean carrying everything alone.

Across homes, classrooms and workplaces, women continue to show resilience, determination and care. The next step is ensuring that the systems around them recognize this effort and share the responsibility.

Because empowerment is not measured by how much a woman can endure, but by the support, opportunities and choices available to her.

#kashvitrust #turningsetbacksintocomebacks #strengthincommunity
Every comeback carries the courage to redraw the lines.

This Holi, we celebrate the women who do exactly that.

Happy Holi.

Discrimination does not always appear in obvious ways. Often, it is embedded in everyday systems, in who is encouraged and who is discouraged, who is included and who is overlooked, who is heard and who is interrupted.

Zero discrimination is not about claiming that inequity does not exist. It is about acknowledging that it does and committing to reduce it through conscious effort. It requires examining policies, questioning norms, and being willing to change practices that unintentionally exclude.

Progress begins when fairness becomes deliberate, not accidental.

#kashvitrust #turningsetbacksintocomebacks #zerodiscriminationday
Early marriage reshapes timelines. It compresses adolescence. It redirects mobility, autonomy and opportunity. And when that happens, education is rarely untouched.

Secondary schooling does not always end with a formal dropout. Sometimes it fades into responsibility. Sometimes it is replaced by caregiving.

So when a woman walks into a Kashvi Centre years later to complete her Grade 10 or 12, she is not “late.” She is resuming a timeline that was interrupted early.

Mahila Samvaad is a starting point and not just an event

If discussions about education, income and independence stop once the session ends, nothing changes.

Real impact happens when these conversations continue in homes, within families and in everyday spaces.

Dialogue cannot be occasional. It has to be ongoing.

Educational interruption is rarely about ability.

In many communities, girls and women step away from schooling due to early marriage, caregiving responsibilities or domestic work that becomes urgent.

The larger challenge is not enrolment, it is structured re-entry.

Locally placed centres, realistic pacing, and adult-appropriate teaching models create viable pathways to continue learning.

When systems adapt to lived realities, participation increases.

And continuation becomes sustainable.

Dropping out doesn’t end the story.

Returning to learning takes clarity, courage, and the right support.

Jiya Janvi’s journey with Kashvi Manzil shows how education can begin again.

Progress, carried forward.

A livelihood doesn’t always need to travel far to change things. Sometimes, it begins right where you are.

For Rita Devi, mushroom cultivation became a way to build income on her own terms, close to home, paced to her life and rooted in everyday realities. What started small is now a source of stability, confidence and decision-making power.

At Kashvi Disha, livelihoods are not just about earning. They are about agency, the ability to choose, manage and grow one’s own path forward.

One mission can take many shapes.
And sometimes, many districts.

Across Jharkhand, women come to Kashvi carrying different realities, interrupted schooling, early responsibilities, financial pressure and years of being told to wait. What they share is the decision to start again.

Through Kashvi Manzil, women step back into learning, building confidence, completing their education and finding their footing.

Through Kashvi Disha, that learning turns into skills, livelihoods, and income pathways that make independence possible.

The districts may be different. The journeys are not identical.
But the intent is the same, to ensure that where a woman lives never decides how far she can go.

This is what it looks like when education meets agency and opportunity reaches the ground.

Turning setbacks into comebacks.

Real understanding often begins before solutions.

At Sutri and Khunti, Mahila Samvaad focused on dialogue - bringing together perspectives on education, livelihood, self-reliance and local challenges in the same space.

These conversations are part of an ongoing process, shaped by local context and shared learning.

Freedom is not just written in the Constitution.
It is lived when a woman learns, earns and chooses her own path.

This Republic Day, we celebrate the quiet courage of every Kashvi learner who is reclaiming her right to education, dignity, and independence.

Because a stronger India is built when every woman gets the freedom to become.

Happy Republic Day 🇮🇳

Recognition matters, but what matters more is what it enables.

When teachers are supported by local schools and authorities, learning becomes consistent for women who are returning to education.

At Kashvi Manzil, this kind of collaboration helps learners stay enrolled, stay motivated, and stay on their education journey through NIOS.

This is how systems come together to make continuity possible.

At Kashvi Manzil, learning brings together women from different stages of life.

Some learners are 16, taking their first step after an early dropout.
Others are 48, returning to education after years of prioritising family, work, and responsibilities.

Different ages. Different life journeys. One shared decision : to continue their education.

Kashvi Manzil creates a learning space where age is not a barrier. Because education is not about when you start, but about choosing to begin.

National Youth Day reminds us that youth is not about age, but intent.

At Kashvi, women and girls move forward by continuing their learning, building skills, and making choices for themselves.

When learning fits into real lives, progress follows.

Kashvi Disha’s mushroom cultivation training brings together skill-building, practice, and learning over time.

Today, 200 women are engaged in mushroom cultivation, supported through inputs that enable production to begin and continue steadily. Alongside this work, 69 women are strengthening their basic literacy and life skills, keeping education and livelihood closely connected.

The work reflects a simple idea: when learning and earning move together, comebacks become possible and sustainable.

What unfolded across exam centers was not just participation, but intent.

Women returning to education after years of pause, responsibility, and compromise.

382 learners from Kashvi Manzil appeared for their Class 10 examinations across five centers in Ranchi, Khunti, and Ramgarh.
The cohort included married learners and mothers.

Quiet perseverance. Real comebacks.

On Kisan Divas, we recognize the everyday work that sustains our food systems and rural economies.

As part of our ongoing engagement in livelihoods and agriculture, members from Kashvi Disha participated in an Awareness and Input Distribution Programme organised under the Tribal Sub Plan by @officialicarindia – @iiab_ranchi_official , Ranchi. The programme focused on strengthening agricultural practices through access, awareness, and timely inputs, and was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Pradeep Kumar Varma, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha.

Alongside this, farmers in Champi village came together for a seed distribution drive under the Birsa Crop Expansion Scheme, reinforcing the importance of community-led action and institutional collaboration.

Through Kashvi Disha, we also work closely with women farmers through mushroom cultivation training, supporting diversified and practical livelihood pathways that build income and resilience beyond traditional farming cycles.

At @kashvi_trust , we believe sustainable livelihoods grow when knowledge, resources, and participation come together on the ground.

Students from the Xavier Institute of Social Service @xiss_ranchi , Ranchi have joined Kashvi for a live field-based internship across our work in Kashvi Manzil and Kashvi Disha.

Founded in 1955, XISS is one of India’s oldest institutions in social service education, with a strong focus on rural management, social work, and development studies. Its deep roots in Jharkhand and long-standing engagement with communities make this field exposure especially meaningful.

Over the coming weeks, students will work closely with communities, engage with ongoing programmes, and gain hands-on learning through real development work at Kashvi.

As they contribute to our programmes, they become part of Kashvi’s ongoing work to turn setbacks into comebacks.

Kashvi teachers came together for a Life Skills Training that focused on learning by doing.

Through activities, reflection, role plays and group discussions, the sessions explored self-awareness, teamwork, emotional understanding, empathy, and communication.

The training was facilitated by Dr Manisha Date, life skills and people development facilitator, and created space for teachers to experience life skills first, reflect together, and practice facilitation techniques they can carry back into their classrooms and centers.

Women of Kashvi now have more skills to choose from beautician training, jewelry making, nursing training, computer training, and tailoring.

Through convergence with JSS, Kashvi Disha is becoming more accessible and practical.

In the last 3 months, 20 women completed their beautician training, building confidence, capability and choice.

This is what learning at Kashvi looks like.

A few focused hours at the Kashvi Manzil Centre can shift the course of a girl’s and woman’s future.

Here, learning looks like mastering missed basics, rebuilding confidence after long gaps in schooling, and finding the courage to step back into recognized education.

Because at Kashvi Manzil, when she learns, she truly rises.

Change doesn’t always begin big.
Sometimes, it starts with a choice. A choice to believe that even a small act can move something forward.

For a Kashvi learner in Jharkhand, ₹500 can mean continuing her education and finishing what she started, and building a life she once only imagined.

So ask yourself this Daan Utsav:
Are we waiting for change to happen, or are we ready to be part of it?

Because every contribution no matter how small adds up to something larger than we think: a woman turning setbacks into comebacks.

Be part of real change.

This #joyofgiving week, let’s rethink what giving means.

Sometimes we imagine impact as something big, something far out of reach. But the truth is that even a small step can create a big #change

For #Kashvi learners in Jharkhand, even a small contribution of ₹500 can help her continue her journey to grow, learn, earn, and thrive.

So here’s a question to reflect on: What’s the real value of ₹500 to you and what could it mean for her?

By contributing, you are not just donating money. You are helping a woman learner #turnsetbacksintocomebacks, and take a step closer to independence.

This #daanutsav, will you be part of her journey?

What is the true measure of empowerment?
Is it in building classrooms, or in building the teachers who shape them?

This #joyofgiving week, we are asking for something more powerful,
your time and your expertise.

Because when you train a teacher with knowledge, skills, and aptitude, you don’t just empower one person. You create a ripple that touches hundreds of women learners in rural and tribal Jharkhand who had to drop out once, but are now bravely giving themselves another chance to complete their Grade 10 and 12 education (NIOS).

Behind every confident learner is a teacher who refused to give up on her. By strengthening our teachers at Kashvi Manzil, you give them the tools to guide, mentor, and inspire.

And here’s the question we leave you with:
If 2 hours a month of your time could empower a teacher, and through them hundreds of women learners, would you step forward?

Sign up to train a teacher this Joy of Giving Week.
